Embracing Rebellion and Love: The Story Behind the “F⭐CK Pottery” T-shirt

In the world of pottery, there exists a delicate dance between the wheel and the artist, a harmonious union of creativity and craftsmanship. But what happens when that dance turns into a struggle, when the artist rebels against the very medium they’re meant to embrace? Enter Mandy, a spirited soul whose disdain for the pottery wheel sparked a revolution of creativity and self-expression.

It all began during one of my Pottery on the Wheel experiences, where Mandy, accompanied by her husband Steve, joined in for what was meant to be a serene session of throwing. However, it quickly became apparent that Mandy’s heart wasn’t in it. The more she despised the process, the more Steve seemed to revel in it, finding joy in the spinning wheel and making pots.

Realising that Mandy wasn’t going to enjoy the session, after the only ceramic cylinder she produced, I made the decision to send her to the work table with our Hub Angel Amber, hoping to provide her with a more enjoyable experience. As the rest of us continued to turn pots, I couldn’t shake the feeling that Mandy deserved something more than just another failed attempt at pottery.

That’s when inspiration struck.

I approached Mandy with the idea of creating a “F⭐CK Pottery” T-shirt for her, a bold statement of rebellion against the traditional expectations of pottery-making. To my delight, Mandy not only embraced the idea but expressed her eagerness to wear such a shirt proudly. We laughed, a lot.

With the help of my friend Sarah, we set out to design the perfect T-shirt, channeling Mandy’s rebellious spirit into every stitch. Once embroidered, we shared our creation and the story of Mandy with fellow potters, friends, and family, and the response was overwhelming. Many resonated with Mandy’s sentiment, recognising that even in the world of pottery, there are days when the craft feels more like a battle than a form of expression.

But we didn’t stop there.

In addition to the “F⭐CK Pottery” T-shirt, we also created a “L⭐VE Pottery” counterpart, a reminder that amidst the struggles and frustrations, there is still love to be found in the art of pottery-making. While it may not sell as quickly as its rebellious counterpart, the “L⭐VE Pottery” T-shirt serves as a source of inspiration and encouragement for our community of potters.

As we proudly display our new products and witness the support of those around us, we’re reminded of the power of embracing our outrageous ideas and standing by our convictions. Mandy’s rebellion against the pottery wheel has sparked a movement of creativity and self-expression, and we couldn’t be prouder to be a part of it.
